Showcasing World-Class Port Scanning Expertise: MDE Hosts Rwanda–Smiths Detection Delegation at Tema Harbour

In December 2025, Modern Digital Electronics Limited (MDE) proudly hosted a high-level delegation from Rwanda and Smiths Detection at the Merdian Port Services (MPS) yard, Terminal 3 – Tema Harbour, reinforcing its position as a trusted leader in port scanning, security, and trade facilitation solutions. The delegation comprised representatives from Smiths Detection alongside senior Rwandan officials, including the Assistant Inspector General of Police (IGP), a Ministry of Finance representative, and Customs officials.

The visit was organised to give the delegation first-hand exposure to the operational mechanisms that drive efficient, secure, and technology-enabled port operations in Ghana. It also provided a platform to demonstrate how advanced scanning solutions, when properly integrated, can significantly enhance cargo movement, security, and overall port performance.

Activities began with a strategic engagement involving Scanport, Meridian Port Services, Smiths Detection, and MDE. This initial meeting set the stage by outlining the collaborative operational model at the Tema Harbour and highlighting the critical role MDE plays in maintaining and deploying cutting-edge scanning technologies.

At the harbour, the delegation was taken through a detailed, end-to-end demonstration of port operations. They were introduced to the Smiths Detection equipment deployed and how it has been seamlessly integrated into port operations to support efficient traffic flow and robust security controls.

The tour showcased the entire container handling process—from the offloading of containers from vessels using cranes, to their transfer onto trucks, and onward movement through designated lanes leading to the scanning facilities. This well-structured routing system, managed by MDE in collaboration with stakeholders, ensures smooth cargo flow while maintaining strict compliance and security standards.

The delegation also visited the export scanning section, container docks, and the import scanning area, gaining a comprehensive understanding of how inbound and outbound cargo is scanned, monitored, and cleared. Each stage of the process highlighted MDE’s ability to manage and maintain complex scanning ecosystems that support high-volume trade without compromising efficiency.

The visit concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, allowing the delegation to engage directly with the technical team. This knowledge-sharing session provided clarity on operational processes and further demonstrated MDE’s depth of expertise and hands-on experience in large-scale port scanning operations.

This informal training and demonstration served as a powerful endorsement of MDE’s technical competence, operational excellence, and regional leadership in non-intrusive inspection and port security solutions. As governments and port authorities across Africa continue to seek reliable, technology-driven solutions, MDE remains a trusted partner, delivering proven systems that enhance security and efficiency.
